The celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the Naples Aquarium at the Anton Dohrn Zoological Station were held in the multipurpose room of the Darwin-Dohrn Museum.
Hundreds of people flocked to celebrate the world's oldest aquarium, for its architectural structure. The morning, which saw the alternation of authoritative voices from the scientific world, researchers from the station, representatives from the academic world and particularly active environmentalist associations on the national territory, was rich in interventions and reflections on the history and importance of aquariums. Moreover, at the center of the discussion, the theme of communication and scientific dissemination, fundamental for a correct transmission of scientific data, against the bad information that often circulates on the web. Unmissable, the theme of biodiversity, on which the human species and the entire planet depend for their sustenance.
"Today's anniversary is a spur to move forward," says vice president prof. Silvestro Greco - we are already ready with the new oceanographic ship, equipped with all the advanced technology instrumentation for marine research. We are emphasizing relations with universities and research centers present on the local and national territory. Finally, we will make all our expertise available, so that marine research can continue and that the zoological station continues to be the first Italian research body on the sea".
