23-Year-Old's Organ Donation Saves Lives After Fatal Road Accident

While still in the prime of life, the 23-year-old, who died following a road accident, decided to give meaning to death by donating his organs, saving the lives of others. A story of solidarity and altruism that comes from the hospital in Caserta, where the multi-organ retrieval was performed, the third of 2024 in the hospital of the capital, thanks to the young man's decision to sign the declaration of willingness to donate organs and tissues; a decision made before the fatal accident, of which even the parents were unaware; the will of the deceased son, learned by the doctors, moved them. Once brain death was confirmed, the doctors removed the heart, liver, kidneys, and corneas; the Organ and Tissue Donation Coordination Unit, in constant contact with the Campania Regional Transplant Center, thus set in motion the organizational machinery that led to the organ donation, which went to six patients between Campania and Sicily waiting for a transplant.
