26-Year-Old Arrested for Attempted Murder After Running Over a Young Man

A 26-year-old, Raffaele Mundo, accused of attempted murder for running over a 22-year-old with his car, leaving him permanently disabled, has been detained by the Carabinieri at Orta di Atella. Mundo, with a history of drug dealing and other crimes, had already been arrested a few years ago for another attempted murder; his father Salvatore Mundo, considered close to the Casalesi clan (Russo family linked to the Schiavones), has been recently released from prison and is currently under special surveillance. According to what was ascertained by the Carabinieri of the operational section of the Marcianise Company, coordinated by the North Naples Prosecutor's Office, on February 6th, Mundo was in the car with his girlfriend at Orta di Atella when he crossed paths with the 22-year-old, who was on foot; the two knew each other and it seems they had pending issues related to illicit dealings, perhaps drug trafficking, although the motive has not yet emerged clearly. Mundo, after seeing the 22-year-old, made a U-turn with the car, chased the other boy and ran him over, then fled. The victim was rushed to the hospital. The 22-year-old was found to have a spinal cord injury that caused permanent paralysis of the lower limbs and other serious physical problems. Less than two months after the fact, Mundo was identified and detained by the Carabinieri on the orders of the Prosecutor's Office, which feared he might flee. At the 26-year-old's house, the Carabinieri found and seized 21,250 euros and a few grams of cocaine.
