32-Year-Old Sentenced for Threatening Prosecutor with Mafia Method

Salvo Gregorio Mirarchi, 32 years old, from Montepaone, was sentenced to two years and ten months in prison, accused of being responsible for the threats contained in a letter sent in January 2023 to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Catanzaro, to the then Prosecutor Nicola Gratteri, who today performs the same functions at the Prosecutor's Office of Naples. The decision was made by the Gup of Salerno. Mirarchi was accused of threatening a public official, aggravated by the mafia method. At the time he wrote the threat letter, Mirarchi was detained as he was arrested as part of the operation 'The Keys', conducted by the Carabinieri, in which a total of 21 people were involved, accused of conspiracy aimed at drug trafficking. Mirarchi, although not affiliated with the 'Ndrangheta, was said to be close to mafia environments, and in particular to the Gallace clan of Guardavalle (Catanzaro). In the letter, Mirarchi stated that he would carry out his criminal intentions against Gratteri and the deputy prosecutor Rizza if he was not released. The trial was held with an abbreviated procedure at the request of the lawyer Francesco Palumbo, from the bar of Salerno, defender of Mirarchi. The public prosecution had asked for the defendant's conviction to 5 years in prison. Mirarchi's defender will consider whether to appeal against the sentence after reading the reasons for the sentence.
