A Mass for Amateur Football in Campania at the Pontifical Shrine of Pompeii

The Campania Committee of the National Amateur League of the Italian Football Federation has organized a mass dedicated to amateur and youth football in Campania, scheduled for Friday, March 1st, at 3 PM, at the Pontifical Shrine of Pompeii. This event serves as an opportunity to remember, through the Eucharistic celebration open to all clubs in the region, the federal and club officials, members of the sports judiciary, and volunteers from the Campanian committee family who have passed away during the current Olympic quadrennium. 'We wanted to create a moment of meeting and prayer that allows us to be together reflecting on the true values of football and sport,' explains Carmine Zigarelli, president of the Figc Lnd Regional Committee of Campania. 'It will be an occasion to remember many friends who are no longer with us, who have made the history of Campanian football with their passion and their commendable commitment, following the teachings of Pope Francis.' Indeed, the Pope has often emphasized the educational role of sport, and football in particular: 'Football is the image of life and society. The goalkeeper must block the ball where it is kicked, but does not know from where it will come. And life is like this. If you play thinking about the good of the group, then it is easier to achieve victory.' As is well known, Pope Francis is a great football enthusiast. He is a fan of San Lorenzo de Almagro, the Argentine team where Pocho Lavezzi also played.
