A Midsummer Night's Dream: A Theatrical Reawakening

Returning to the 'Sala Assoli', from Thursday 11th to Sunday 14th April (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 8:30 PM; Sunday at 6:00 PM) 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', a show adapted and directed by Rosario Sparno based on the work of William Shakespeare, performed by Raffaele Ausiello, Angelica Bifano, Luca Iervolino, Sara Lupoli, Biagio Musella, and produced by Casa del Contemporaneo. Following the success of the previous season, the Bard's comedy is restaged in the multifaceted 'Sala dei Quartieri Spagnoli' which, with the auditorium dismantled, becomes an ad hoc space for a fantastic journey into darkness, in search of a 'New Awakening' in the name of love, theater, and art. In Sparno's adaptation, faithful to Shakespearean language, the Dream marks the encounter between actors and audience, between storyteller and listener, creating a special reflection of the world of theater and its dynamics. The show features scenes by Omar Esposito, costumes by Giuseppe Avallone, and lighting by Simone Picardi; the scenic movements are curated by Sara Lupoli. 'The protagonists of this work,' explains the director, 'are the 'guitti', the actors superbly described by William Shakespeare. On the night of the comedy, perhaps the night of St. John, in a forest, the clash between masculine and feminine, between surrender and attack, in the moonlight, becomes a time of sensory anarchy, ambiguity, and visions, while spirits flit freely through the woods leading travelers astray. It is a secret work that of the actors. The actors lead us by the hand through the darkness, give us the courage to traverse the night, invite us to dream with them, for a brief but significant period. 'Dream', which we might define according to our tradition as 'the beginning of summer', is a magical circle, an unworthy stage, where spectators can witness a secret work, a birth, for a new awakening.'
