A Tragic Loss and a Community's Quest for Justice

"I raised Carlo myself, I was moved when I heard him tell the truth," so Antonio Maimone commented on Carlo's testimony, a friend of his son Francesco Pio, in whose arms the victim expired on March 20, 2023, after being hit by a stray bullet, at the climax of a quarrel in which he was completely uninvolved, erupted over a step on a pair of branded shoes. At the end of the testimony - the first and only so far in which the name of the person who shot that night was mentioned and named - Carlo went to his friend's father and the two embraced. The next hearing of the trial has been set for May 8 and on this occasion too, the prosecutor of the DDA Antonella Fratello has decided not to make the list of witnesses to be heard public. In past hearings, indeed, there were alleged pressures via social media against some witnesses. It did not go unnoticed, at the end of the hearing, the behavior adopted by some of the defendants, connected via video conference from the prisons where they are detained, with the Court of Assizes of Naples: some, with a smile on their lips, mimicked the gesture of handcuffs.
