Advocate's Appeal for Elderly Inmates at Poggioreale Prison

"Today in my visit to the Poggioreale prison, I met a 92-year-old inmate! In the same department, I spoke at length with an eighty-year-old. There are also seven other inmates over eighty. None for a murder conviction! All confined for security reasons and not for legal civility. Not only the dignity of the differently free is at stake. It is about preserving their very life, given their advanced age". This is the appeal launched by the prisoners' guarantor of Campania, Samuele Ciambriello, after today at Poggioreale prison, he met some inmates of the Venice department, where the 'sex offenders' are placed. "But even on these stories of prison life there is an innocent silence of politics that lives a logic of security and not of Constitutional dictate.
