Arrest of Mafia Clan Leader in Mondragone for Aggravated Murder

The Carabinieri of the Territorial Unit of Mondragone, following an investigation coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Naples - District Anti-Mafia Directorate - have arrested 54-year-old Giacomo Fragnoli, considered the leader of the "Fragnoli - La Torre" clan of Mondragone, for aggravated murder in concert and mafia association. He is accused of being the mastermind behind the murder. The measure stems from investigations conducted after the murder of Giuseppe Mancone, which occurred on August 14, 2003, in the town of Domitian. The material executors of the crime, Salvatore Cifarielli and Marco Durantini, were identified and arrested. However, the mastermind of the crime was missing, pointed out as Giacomo Fragnoli by some collaborators of justice, who have reopened the investigations. It emerged that the 54-year-old would have organized and planned the murder because Mancone would have refused to pay a substantial monthly installment related to the drug trafficking activity he himself managed; Fragnoli would then have asked the Birra clan to take care of the material execution of the crime. Fragnoli, son of Giuseppe, a prominent member of the Mondragone Camorra, has already served a sentence for mafia association and extortion in the maximum security prison of L'Aquila, and was released from prison last January, immediately returning to Mondragone.
