Assault in Avellino Prison: Officer Attacked by Inmate with Psychiatric Issues

Another assault in the prisons of Irpinia. An officer on duty at the Avellino penitentiary was attacked by an inmate with psychiatric problems. The incident occurred in the infirmary section. The officer was hit with a punch to the face. He was assisted by his colleagues and ended up with a prognosis of six days. The news was disclosed by the head of the Uilpa Avellino secretariat, Raffaele Troise. "The management of inmates with psychiatric issues," says Troise, "is a longstanding problem that further undermines a prison like that of Avellino, already heavily tested by the daily critical events that find no resolution and make the workload a boulder weighing on the shoulders of every single officer. It is necessary to increase the number of specialized professional figures for the proper management of these situations and the staff of police officers who are also responsible for ensuring order and security in prison," concludes Troise.
