Benevento Leads in Water Tariff Virtue Among Italian Provinces

“The latest authoritative national report on integrated water service by the Observatory of prices and tariffs of Cittadinanzattiva, presented yesterday, confirms that Benevento is extremely virtuous in terms of water tariffs, ranking among the top 15 provincial capitals in Italy, with an average family expenditure of 305 euros per year compared to the national average of 478 euros, which reaches a maximum peak of 867 euros,” writes Benevento Mayor Clemente Mastella in a note. “We have consistently climbed positions in this regard over the last few years, ranking among the lowest tariffs in Italy. The variation in tariffs over the last 5 years has been negligible, around 4%, compared to a national average that has seen very high increases with peaks of about 95%. Consider that Milan, the city with the lowest tariff in Italy, has recorded an increase of over 32% in the last 5 years. I thank our manager Gesesa for the rigorous work that is being carried forward, despite the great existing difficulties and precisely on water losses in Benevento, and also in other municipalities managed by Gesesa, the current data are much improved compared to those indicated by active citizenship, referred to 2020, by virtue of the continuous activities on the network by the technicians of Gesesa, but they remain always high in the absence of investments,” he continues. “To structurally and effectively address the extremely negative aspect of water losses,” the mayor presses on, “I renew once again my appeal to the Campania Region and the Campano water body to quickly conclude the process for the identification of the unique manager of the Sannio water district in order to start the investment plan, today precluded, for the refurbishment of the water networks of Benevento and Sannio. We have been waiting too long and this cannot go on any longer, we must be put in a position to progress in terms of integrated water service just like all the other Campania and Italian provinces. Therefore, I can only strongly criticize all the repeated and repetitive attempts by some political opponents on the issue of identifying the new management company, who constantly agitate with the sole intention of wanting to block everything, leaving Benevento at a standstill. The only thing they know how to do. Benevento urgently needs to grow also in terms of integrated water service and we will succeed, for the benefit of the citizens and for the protection of the environment, with the good peace of the 'professional no-sayers'” concludes the mayor of Benevento.
