Benevento Man Arrested for Stalking Ex-Wife

Following investigations coordinated by the Prosecutor's Office, led by Aldo Policastro, investigators have issued a precautionary custody order in prison for a 46-year-old man from Benevento, accused of stalking acts. The investigations were initiated after the complaint filed by the victim last March, reporting that her ex-husband, after being released from prison in the context of a different proceeding for crimes of the same nature committed against her, for which a guilty plea had resulted in a conviction, had resumed harassing and threatening her, causing her 'a lasting and severe state of anxiety and fear, as well as instilling in her a legitimate fear for her own safety.' The same judge, in accepting the prosecutor's request, recognized the existence of serious evidence of guilt against the suspect, ordering 'in-prison custody' also based on the fact that, in a different criminal proceeding, while the suspect was under a restraining order from the victim, he violated the measure and, in addition to being arrested, 'had also undergone an aggravation of the measure in place, replaced with precautionary custody in prison.' The court of Benevento, therefore, accepting the Prosecutor's Office's request, issued the enforcement order for the precautionary custody in prison for the suspect, considering it the most suitable measure to protect the safety of the complainant. In any case, against the executed order, means of appeal are allowed.
