Calls for Enhanced Security at Ariano Irpino Prison

“It is necessary for the Ariano Irpino prison to be put in a position to move from the second to the first level of security in order to ensure its better management. The latest and repeated incidents of violence that have affected the Institute should induce the Ministry of Justice to adopt the necessary measures to remedy a now longstanding organic deficiency that does not allow to guarantee the minimum levels of security,” declares the honorable Angelo Antonio D'Agostino, head of the National Department of Innovation and Development of Forza Italia, on the sidelines of the "Sport Day" event held at the Ariano Irpino prison. “No more than twenty days ago,” adds D'Agostino, “there were riots in the penitentiary institution of Ariano that jeopardized the safety of the operating staff, engaged in preventing the introduction of mobile phones into the prison intended for some inmates. These phenomena have become too frequent and almost always arise from the poor organic endowment of the institute. I appeal to the Minister of Justice,” concludes D'Agostino, “to evaluate the opportunity to raise the classification of the penitentiary institution by bringing it to the first level of security, so as to equip it with the necessary staff for its safe and effective operation.”
