Capri's Gold for the second time in Trieste, from March 8th to 10th, at Olio Capitale. The most important Italian fair on typical and quality extra virgin olive oils reaches its 16th edition. Hundreds of extra virgin olive oil producers, coming from all Italian olive-growing regions and abroad, will take turns in the salon of typical and quality extra virgins.

Capri's Gold, in particular, this year focuses on the enhancement of the heritage of ancient olive trees located on the southwest coast of the island between the Blue Grotto and the Lighthouse, along the historic path of the forts. The protection is focused on the trees that coexist with the Mediterranean scrub in a terraced landscape that thins out towards the sea.

The group of olive growers from Anacapri, consisting of about 50 members, will bring to Olio Capitale the recovery work of the olive groves that coexist with the scrub in about 50 hectares of land. Very important was the discovery, thanks to a study commissioned to the CNR of Perugia, that in the almost 50 monitored hectares, there are some of the oldest olive trees in Campania from 200 to 1000 years old. It was also discovered the existence of 21 different genotypes on the island, which testify to a great biodiversity and refer to the Throumbolia cultivar, predominantly spread in Crete.

The enhancement that begins in primary schools, was also at the center of the last FAI conference held in Naples at the end of February, where Capri's Gold brought its own "case study", talking about the importance of working on the protection and enhancement of the heritage through the very young, making them feel part of this invaluable green heritage, with recreational, study, and snack activities in the areas where the olive groves are located.

The focus will also be this year on the project "Mamma Evo" strongly promoted by the president of the Association Pierluigi della Femina, which encourages the consumption of extra virgin olive oil, produced in Anacapri, for new mothers in order to educate them to the authentic taste of oil from the weaning phase.
