Casamicciola's Landslide Investigation: Municipality Takes Legal Action

Investigation into the November 2022 landslide in Casamicciola: the Municipality does not hesitate and takes action. It becomes a civil party to prosecute any type of crime against anyone involved in the dramatic event that caused the death of 12 people and the devastation of the Ischia locality. The municipal council presided over by mayor Ferrandino has dictated its own directive for the safeguarding of the Entity in criminal court, appointing as its lawyer Gennaro Tortora of the Naples Bar, already the trusted lawyer of the mayor. The mayor of Casamicciola explained how the criminal proceedings against unknown persons came about: "After the exceptional flood event that caused victims and serious dangers and following the activation of a criminal procedure activated by the Public Prosecutor's Office, the Municipality deemed it appropriate to undertake every action aimed at protecting the position of the Entity in consideration of any requests for indictments and to advance before the Judicial Authority a request for punishment of the guilty parties as well as a request for compensation for damages. For this reason, we conferred the legal mandate to lawyer Tortora in order to acquire elements in order to defend the position of our Municipality, as a person offended by the crimes that will be evaluated by the Prosecutor's Office."
