Castel Volturno: A Leading Municipality in Caserta for Foreign Population Growth

Castel Volturno ranks first among the municipalities of the province of Caserta for the number of foreigners - 4933 since January 2022 - which triple during the periods of highest seasonal demand. This is according to the first report on immigrant workers in the agri-food sector "Made in Immigritaly. Lands, crops, cultures," commissioned by Fai-Cisl, presented at the CNEL and produced by the Centro Studi Confronti. A stable presence that "finds no comparison in other locations of the area. It is therefore a factor not to be underestimated because it manifests with new territorialities that intersect with conditions of unfair work." Castel Volturno was one of the cities that, already at the beginning of the 1980s, hosted the first groups of foreigners - mostly Africans - who came to the area to find employment, even if sporadic, in the fields of the Caserta area for the harvesting of vegetables.
