Ceiling Collapse at Caserta Shopping Center: A Narrow Escape from Tragedy

The firefighters of Caserta, upon delegation from the Public Prosecutor's Office of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, have sealed off the central square where the ceiling collapsed, bringing down cables and systems. "We could have been telling a very different and tragic story if the collapse had occurred just a few minutes earlier," says the commander of the Caserta Fire Brigade, Paolo Massimi, who, in addition to the team from the Marcianise detachment, also sent a judicial police team overnight to ascertain the causes of the collapse. "The security personnel - Massimi adds - had realized that something was about to happen and had evacuated the few people present by cordoning off the area. Our technicians are also working on it today." The collapse occurred after 10 PM, when the shops in the Shopping Center were closed, and there were only a few customers. "A tragedy avoided by a miracle. If the collapse had occurred a few hours earlier, with the doors open and families crowding the shops in full activity, we would have witnessed a massacre. I ask for a rapid investigation to discover the causes of the collapse and any possible responsibilities. Someone will have to explain how all this was possible, because what happened is horrifying. How can a ceiling collapse in this way without any prior warning? I find it strange that this morning the center reopened as if nothing had happened. I hope at least that the necessary checks have been carried out on the entire structure and not just on the part affected by the collapse, to prevent a very dangerous domino effect, even though the few hours that have passed leave me with many doubts.
