On Thursday, March 28th, at 1 PM, the Royal Yacht Club Canottieri Savoia celebrates the 100th birthday of Marcello James, a historic rowing coach, “father” to entire generations of athletes and coaches, among the first to apply scientific studies in rowing, revolutionizing the way it is conceived and giving the coach a role of great importance.
“Mr. Marcello,” as his many students affectionately still call him today, who he trained and led to success, indeed reaches the milestone of a century of life, which he will spend in the halls of the Savoia Club (Banchina Santa Lucia).
«Entire generations of rowers, but also of students from Nunziatella like me, had him as a professor of physical education and coach,» the words of the president of RYCC Savoia, Fabrizio Cattaneo della Volta. «What always struck us about Marcello were his enthusiasm, his ability to motivate the young, his sporting and life teachings. We owe him a lot.»
