Cerreto Sannita: A Day of Reflection and Commitment in Memory of Mafia Victims

On Thursday, in Cerreto Sannita, as part of the National Day of Remembrance and Commitment in memory of the victims of the mafia, a special event marked by reflection took place. In the grand hall of the "Luigi Sodo" institute, 150 students met with members of the Carabinieri. The morning began with a greeting from the principal, Don Alfonso Salomone, who thanked the Carabinieri for their daily efforts. This was followed by speeches from Major Francesco Altieri, commander of the Cerreto Sannita company, and retired Captain Giuseppe Iatomasi, known for arresting numerous fugitives including the notorious Casalesi clan killer Giuseppe Setola. They remembered the victims of the mafia and the figure of General Dalla Chiesa, as an example to follow for the future of young students. The meeting concluded with reflections from Bishop Giuseppe Mazzafaro, who encouraged the young people to follow educators and not seducers bearing false myths. Topics such as bullying, cyber-bullying, the conscious use of social networks, road safety rules, the use of drugs, and the abuse of alcoholic substances were also discussed. The school and the Carabinieri share the common goal of educating young people about legality, so as to make them fully aware of their rights and duties, in order to develop their interests in a just society, free of abuses and violence. For several years, the "culture of legality" project, which involves meetings between the Carabinieri and students at all educational institutions, has been in place to achieve this result.
