Chaos at Evangelical Hospital Betania: Patients Break Into Emergency Room

Panic at the Evangelical Hospital Betania after two patients tired of waiting their turn to be called into the room broke through the emergency room door by entering under the triage room's hatch and verbally assaulted doctors and nurses busy administering immediate care to other patients. They demanded immediate entry despite being classified as white code. The relatives waiting in the room lashed out against the security guard, insulting both the security agent and the triage nurse. Only the prompt intervention of other security guards and some doctors and nurses prevented worse consequences. 'Yet another assault on the healthcare and security personnel of our Hospital's emergency room, one of the frontline healthcare facilities in the difficult Naples neighborhood of Ponticelli,' said Vincenzo Bottino, general director of the Evangelical Hospital Betania. 'As we have repeatedly pointed out, we are deeply concerned and fear for the safety of our staff who dedicate themselves heart and soul to assist patients arriving in the emergency room with acute pathologies and who obviously must give precedence to the more serious triages. The violent reaction of those who want to skip the graduality of their acceptance code is unjustified and incomprehensible. Once again, we ask the Naples Police Headquarters for the establishment of a public security unit to ensure the peaceful and regular conduct of healthcare activities.'
