Community Mobilization Against Solar Parks in Benevento

Solar parks, the mobilization starts from the Benevento districts to say enough. The committee "Contrade insieme" has indeed been established, which, with a collection of signatures sent to the mayor Clemente Mastella, to the president of the Province Nino Lombardi, and to the president of the Region Vincenzo De Luca, asks for "the urgent block of the existing solar parks and of the authorizations for the new plants that will have to be realized in our territory". The committee, through the spokesperson Valentino Grieco, announces that "the areas to be safeguarded to which we refer are Monteserrato district, La Francesca district, Francavilla district, where the plants are present and active, San Domenico district, Panelli district, Mosti district, Imperatore district, Lammia district, Vallereccia district, Cese district, Olivola district to which entire plains of new photovoltaics are destined". The mobilization also aims to defend the agri-food production "based on the cultivation of 0 km vegetables, on olive groves and vineyards from which wines like Aglianico and Falanghina, known in Italy and in the world, are born. Our meats and cheeses are expressions of tradition and genuineness. We have natural and uncontaminated landscapes to safeguard. The uncontrolled increase of solar parks would cause a heavy landscape impact, the fertility of the soil and the local crops would be compromised. We must defend our resources. We must protect the lands in which we live from financial speculation and we must intervene before it's too late". The competent authorities are therefore asked "to reconsider the energy development policies, ensuring a responsible planning of the photovoltaic plants that takes into account the environmental and landscape impact".
