Community Service and Probation: New Agreements Signed in Benevento

Yesterday, at the Court of Benevento, the president of the Asi Consortium, Domenico Vessichelli, accompanied by the councilor Alessio Augliese, signed two agreements respectively with the president of the Court, Marilisa Rinaldi, and with the director of the external penal execution office, Marisa Bocchino. The two activated agreements concern the performance of community service and probation. Therefore, the focus is on work activities for offenders for the benefit of the community, with the aim of reducing the use of prison sentences and offering the possibility for the accused/defendants to take responsibility and reintegrate into society. The institute, increasingly used in Italy, is inspired by the Anglo-Saxon model, with the goal of identifying an alternative or substitutive sanctioning tool to imprisonment and represents for the Asi of Benevento an additional device to the memorandum of understanding already in place with the Benevento penitentiary, whose positive outcomes have convinced the current management to replicate the practice. 'With this subscription,' the Asi writes, 'we have the opportunity to offer a service to the community and an example of great legal civilization. The protocol, in line with the best practices already undertaken by the Asi Consortium, provides for the use of five requesting subjects who will dedicate themselves to the care and maintenance of green areas in the industrial agglomeration. The initiative makes us particularly proud for the socio-rehabilitative meaning of the program and we are considering implementing it soon, foreseeing an active involvement of the companies located there.'
