The refurbishment works of the organic waste treatment plant, owned by the Municipality and managed by Salerno Pulita, have been completed.

The works, which started in May of last year, for a total amount of 3.7 million euros, were financed with resources that the participated company acquired through self-financing, with the raising of a loan and by resorting to facilitated finance instruments, provided by the Industry 4.0 and Bonus Sud measures, which will allow to recover up to 65% of the investment.

"I believe this is the best plant we have in the Campania region," says the president of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca - I would like to congratulate Enzo Bennet - sole director of Salerno Pulita - who is doing a very effective job. The city, two years ago, had a decrease in attention on environmental issues.

Today, we have an excellent recovery with 75% of separate waste collection. We must give credit to the municipal administration and the company Salerno Pulita for doing an excellent job. This plant, inaugurated a few years ago, also received an award from the European Union; it was the first public composting plant built in Campania. It helps us eliminate the European penalty of 120,000 euros per day. We have already eliminated half of it, we plan to eliminate it completely by the end of the year but we need to complete the waste cycle and the composting plant network.

"With the works carried out - explained Enzo Bennet, sole director of Salerno Pulita - we restore dignity to a plant, wanted and built with courage and foresight in the years of the waste emergency in Campania, received only partially functioning from the previous manager. We also restore the production of electricity, starting from the by-products of the organic fraction, in addition to improving the quality of compost. In the meantime, the procedures are already underway to obtain the authorizations that will allow us to expand the plant and to produce biomethane whose project will be financed by the Campania Region".

The improvements made are several and mainly concern the installation of new, more efficient machines and the provision of new equipment. In particular, a compass has been created for the containment of odors with an attached wheel washer for trucks entering and leaving the shed; a machine has been installed that opens the bags containing the waste; 4 conveyor belts have been installed. The plant has also been equipped with two bioseparators, to replace the old press, to separate the organic from the non-organic material; a deferrizer to eliminate any metallic materials; a pasteurizer to heat the organic before it is sent to digestion; a desander to eliminate sands and other materials; a new mixer for the addition of structuring, a biogas engine for the production of electricity to replace the previous two and a new torch.
