The Consortium for the Protection of Campana Buffalo Mozzarella DOP is focusing on exports and multiplying its promotional initiatives abroad. From France to Japan, Campana Buffalo Mozzarella is increasingly looking at foreign markets, which also become central in the development strategy of the Consortium's activities.

Exports of the sector are indeed worth over 300 million euros and for the first time exceeded 40% of the entire production.

The international tour, which will take the DOP mozzarella to different continents, starts next Sunday, February 25, from Paris, where the 'Salon du Fromage' opens in the spaces of 'Paris Expo Porte de Versailles' until February 27.

Campana buffalo mozzarella will participate in the exhibition as part of the collective curated by the Agency for the promotion abroad and the internationalization of Italian companies (Ice) in Hall 7.3, stand E037.

France represents the first market for the export of DOP Buffalo, absorbing about a third of the total. The French are among the biggest cheese enthusiasts in the world: in 2021 they consumed about 29 kg of cheese per capita and in this quantity, an average of 1.9 kg of mozzarella is included, a product that is third in preferences according to the 2023 report of France Agrimer.

'Our sector arrives at the Parisian appointment in a still difficult scenario', informs the president of the Consortium, Domenico Raimondo.

2023 closed with a slight decrease in the production of Campana buffalo mozzarella DOP, which stood at 55,707 tons, recording a drop of 0.28 percent compared to 2022.

Encouraging signs, however, come from exports: according to the Distretti di Intesa Sanpaolo monitor, in the third quarter of 2023 Campana buffalo mozzarella scored a +10 percent, while the dairy sector stopped at a +3 percent.

'Our product is increasingly liked on tables around the world and exports represent a fundamental asset, on which the Consortium has decided to invest', explains President Raimondo.

Already planned are the other stages of the international mission.

From March 5 to 8, the Consortium will take part in the 'Foodex' of Tokyo, the main Japanese fair and a major commercial event for the entire Asia Pacific area. A series of promotional activities dedicated to the DOP products system are scheduled, under the direction of the European Union.

From March 18 to 21, the venue shifts to Spain, at the 'Alimentaria' exhibition in Barcelona (Hall 3, level 0, stand 500), a biennial event involving the main players in the international agri-food sector.

The Consortium will promote initiatives also in collaboration with the Campania Region. Spain represents one of the most promising markets and today accounts for 5 percent of Bufala DOP exports.

From May 7 to 10, the venue returns to Italy to be the protagonists at the 'Cibus' in Parma.
