Cutting-Edge Nature: Gabriella Gorini's Unconventional Art Exhibition

Artworks created on pizza boxes and other collages: on Friday, October 22, the exhibition "Cutting-Edge Nature", a solo show by artist Gabriella Gorini, who creates with unconventional materials, opens at Palazzo Ricca, the headquarters of the Fondazione Banco di Napoli. This is the fourth event of the contemporary art series Entrée, curated by Carla Viparelli. "Gorini's style," explains Viparelli, "is extremely refined both in terms of technique, meticulously detailed, and for the rich symbolic imagery, cultured and dreamlike. The synthesis of such formal election and a material that is popular and poor par excellence fully reflects the free, composite, transversal spirit of the city of Naples, where elite culture and popular culture alchemically merge: from the golden apples of the Garden of the Hesperides to the tomato, the step is short." In addition to the series on pizza cartons, Gorini offers paintings on canvas or on cardboard applied to canvas, some of large format (70x100) others of medium and small dimensions. These delightful figures are drawn like a thin and powerful watermark, bringing together different planes of visual and emotional perception. "The transformation of things," comments expert Francesca Panico, "thus starts from the very matter of the creative process to the mutability of the representation itself. Thus, those dreamlike figures that Gorini cuts out and places floating in a mysterious and abstract space, are always a meeting of things or parts of them, balanced between the natural and the surreal, never defining themselves as a concluded experience. Entrée is the contemporary art series, which includes an annual programming of some solo shows at the entrance halls of the Fondazione Banco di Napoli. The term 'entrée' refers both to the exhibition space and to the choice of proposing for each artist a limited selection of works chosen as a 'taste' of their production, snack and spur for further exploration.
