Divine: A Theatrical Adaptation of Jean Genet's Novel at Galleria Toledo

At Galleria Toledo, a permanent theater of innovation in the Spanish Quarters, directed by Laura Angiulli, Danio Manfredini stars in "Divine", freely inspired by Jean Genet's novel, "Our Lady of the Flowers". The show runs on Saturday, March 23, and Sunday, March 24, 2024. Saturday at 8:30 PM, Sunday at 6 PM. The book was written in 1944, during the period Genet spent in prison in Paris. In the novel, the protagonist is the author himself, caught in the prison universe made of cells, corridors, and fellow misfortunes. Genet takes inspiration precisely from the presences around him to create an invented story. From the complexity of the novel, a branch that is the story of Divine, born Louis Culafroy, a boy who runs away from home to lead a life as a transvestite in Paris. The encounter with Mignon, a petty thief, and the encounter with Our Lady of the Flowers, a young murderer, will indelibly mark Divine's life.
