Dramatic Nighttime Operation: Car Fire Leads to Arrests and Seizure of Weapons and Drugs

The Carabinieri of the Castello di Cisterna station intervened tonight in Nilde Iotti street, in the municipality of Pomigliano D’Arco, for a car on fire. It was a small car resulting from a robbery committed last March 10th in Afragola. Shortly after, the military learned that a 118 crew had intervened in the home of 38-year-old Salvatore Esposito, who was under house arrest. He had severe burns on his body, which required immediate hospitalization in a red code. The man is in life-threatening condition, in intensive care because he is burned on 70% of his body. According to what was ascertained by the Carabinieri, the man was aboard that car and, for reasons still unclear, the vehicle caught fire. The Carabinieri thus searched Esposito's apartment and, in a small cellar, found a Beretta pistol with an abraded serial number and with a bullet in the chamber and another 8 caliber pistol modified without the red cap. Also found were a neck warmer and a balaclava, 79 grams of cocaine, almost 1 kilo and 800 grams of marijuana, and 2 sticks of hashish. The haul continues with two sawed-off shotguns caliber 12, 2 full-face helmets, a baseball bat, three switchblade knives, two walkie-talkies, 70 bullets caliber 9. The seized material will be subjected to ballistic and fingerprint tests. The 38-year-old, who was also charged with receiving stolen property and escaping from house arrest; his son, arrested for carrying illegal weapons and possession of drugs for the purpose of dealing; the wife, referred in a state of freedom.
