Drug Seizure and Arrests at Poggioreale Prison in Naples

The penitentiary police seized 200 grams of hashish in the visiting area of the Poggioreale prison in Naples, where a detainee working in cleaning was arrested. In the last six months, the officers have seized more than three kilograms of narcotics, made three arrests, and filed numerous reports.

"Nowadays," comment Ciro Auricchio and Giuseppe Moretti, regional secretary and president of the Uspp, "a daily war is fought inside the prisons against the continuous attempted introductions of drugs and mobile phones. It's necessary to equip the penitentiary police with technologically advanced tools to eradicate this scourge within the penal institutions."

"At Poggioreale," the two unionists finally recall, "150 agents are missing but still, it is possible to maintain internal order and security."
