Easter Monday at Mappatella Beach: Crowds Amid Neglect

“Happy to have seen Mappatella Beach already crowded with tourists and citizens for Easter Monday, but it's sad to see the beach abandoned to neglect. The shore was full of trash of every kind, mostly brought to shore by the storms of the past days, but from the water even an abandoned armchair emerged. Today, an extraordinary cleaning was expected, instead no one came to clean up,” says Francesco Emilio Borrelli, deputy of the Green-Left Alliance who on the day of Easter Monday made an inspection along the Naples waterfront. A serious mistake during one of the weekends that saw a record turnout in the city. A record that was also felt in Santa Lucia, plagued by the usual illegal parking attendants in a fairly intense coming and going of cars. Once on the spot, several illegal attendants began to move away. One of them, however, who has been plaguing the area for years, spent a good 10 minutes explaining his absurd reasons to me while shouting to the customers “today there is Borrelli, better you go away.” Fortunately, he eventually, urged by a police officer, gave up and vanished. I ask that during the holidays, in strategic places of the city, extraordinary police garrisons are provided to keep the illegal attendants at bay and ensure safety to the many good citizens who would just like to enjoy a day off,” he concludes.
