Environmental Violations Uncovered at Auto Repair Shop

During a control activity carried out by the Carabinieri belonging to the Forest Unit of Marcianise at a mechatronic auto repair shop in Casaluce, along the Provincial Road Teverola-Casaluce, environmentally relevant criminal violations were ascertained against the owner. In particular, inside the premises where the processing takes place, the following mixed wastes were found without identification signs: waste oil; dangerous packaging mixed with raw materials such as car batteries; rags and sawdust contaminated by dangerous substances; car parts contaminated by dangerous substances. The temporary storage of such waste also did not comply with the technical standards established by a specific resolution of the interministerial committee. Another irregularity was found due to the existence of an industrial wastewater discharge connected to the public sewer system without the necessary authorization. In a second premises, adjacent to the workshop but accessible from the outside, the presence of various wastes consisting of: iron car parts; bags containing packaging contaminated by dangerous substances; bags containing used car filters was also detected. These wastes were also found mixed together and lacking the appropriate signage with the Eer code identifying them. Since precise criminal responsibilities regarding crimes related to the creation of an uncontrolled deposit of hazardous and non-hazardous special waste; illegal disposal of waste consisting of aqueous waste solutions contaminated by dangerous substances; activation of an industrial wastewater discharge into the public sewer without any authorization act emerged against the owner of the business, the military proceeded to the seizure of the entire mechatronics activity and the wastes described above. The owner of the business was reported on the loose for the mentioned crime hypotheses. Finally, the examination of the waste loading and unloading register highlighted its incorrect keeping: for this irregularity, a fine of 4133.33 euros was imposed.
