Establishment of the Territorial Operational Section in Naples for National Technical Structure Support

The Territorial Operational Section of Naples and its province of the National Technical Structure, supporting the National Department of Civil Protection, has been established, with the Order of Geologists of Campania at the forefront. The election of the representatives of the SOT took place on March 22, 2024, following the request for convening by the president of the Order of Engineers of the province of Naples, Gennaro Annunziata, and was attended by representatives of the technical professions of Naples and its province including the president of the Order of Geologists of Campania, Egidio Grasso, the delegate Vincenzo Testa, and the geologist Lorenzo Benedetto, vice president of the STN. During the convening, the architect Antonio Cerbone was unanimously appointed as the coordinator of the SOT, who will be assisted by the vice engineer Eduardo Pace and the surveyor Massimo Scaffidi, while the geologist Vincenzo Testa, already a member of the Regional Operational Coordination, was appointed as secretary. "With the establishment of the Territorial Operational Section of Naples and its province, we have signed a fundamental pact. It is a date to remember, as each professional, with their own skills, and among them the geologists, is ready to provide their contribution to all Civil Protection operations for which we will be called to offer our professionalism, and support the National Technical Structure which has specific objectives: to ensure the coordination of the management of emergency events; to provide technical support in the activities of damage assessment and building usability; a contribution for geological, geotechnical, and cartographic verifications as well as for all other activities necessary to overcome emergencies," said Egidio Grasso, president of the Order of Geologists of Campania. "The synergy between components of all the Orders and Professional Colleges of the Technical Area was total. We will start working already from Monday, with the start of operations for the analysis of the vulnerability of private buildings in areas affected by bradyseism phenomena of the Phlegraean Fields," added the SOT secretary Vincenzo Testa. The activity of the SOT of Naples and its province will operate according to what is defined by the statute of the STN and the regulations it has set at the national level, contributing in case of mobilization on emergency scenarios both in promoting risk awareness and prevention and in the knowledge of the Civil Protection system.
