Fast Ferry 'Isola di Procida' Crashes into Dock in Naples, Injuring Dozens

The fast ship 'Isola di Procida' departing from Capri struck a quay at Molo Beverello in Naples during mooring operations. According to initial reports, there are about thirty injured, 21 of whom have been admitted to hospitals in Naples with maxillofacial traumas or injuries. On board there were several hundred passengers, including many foreigners. Several injured are currently being assisted by the 118 emergency services, 21 have been transported to the nearest hospitals, another 8 presented themselves by their own means to the emergency room of the Pellegrini hospital. A medical post has been set up at the scene of the accident and the coordinator of the rescue operations has requested the further dispatch of ambulances. At the moment of impact, upon arrival in the port, the passengers were almost all standing and would have fallen due to the collision. Caremar states that the impact was probably due to a technical accident. The shipping company is activating all the assistance procedures provided for passengers and will provide maximum cooperation to the maritime authority to ascertain the causes of the accident. On board the ship, in addition to the 118 medical staff, there are men from the Coast Guard and the State Police who are carrying out the initial investigations to understand if it is an accident due to marine weather conditions or it could be a human error.
