«Federico II Unveiled»: on March 20, classrooms, courtyards, libraries, museums, botanical gardens, and laboratories of the University will be open to the public. It will be possible to visit them, preferably by booking, the historic «palaces of knowledge» that contain life and stories of 800 years of Neapolitan and international culture.
Initiatives are planned at every location. To know the places that can be visited with the activities organized, and to book the visit, just connect. The list is rich and articulated and, naturally, 'widespread', as the university presents itself, ancient and very modern, which has over thirty locations in and out of the city. You can choose from the historic center to Fuorigrotta to the hill area to San Giovanni a Teduccio to Portici and many other places.
«Federico II Unveiled» is the contribution of the University of Naples Federico II to the celebrations of the first edition of the National University Day - «Universities Unveiled», promoted by Crui, the Conference of Italian University Rectors and set for March 20, 2024.
An opportunity to raise awareness in society about the role and mission of the university system in its multiple functions: research, teaching, public engagement. The Federician event, which enjoys the patronage of the Ministry of University and Research, is organized in partnership with Fai Campania.
The program is rich in initiatives, events, exhibition areas, and guided tours, extended to all the locations of the University, including the monumental complexes that host them, which takes on a particular meaning this year due to the coincidence with the 800 years since the foundation of the oldest secular University in the world.
The Federico II will open to the public to offer a unique opportunity for participation, a moment of sharing of the scientific and cultural heritage and the knowledge valorization initiatives that the academic community produces for society, with the goal of showing from the inside the life that takes place in universities.
For the occasion, the suspension of teaching activities has been arranged, except for the sessions of exams for credit and degree.
The program concludes with the event «The Federico II Meets the City», Wednesday, March 20, at 6:30 PM, in the suggestive setting of the sixteenth-century Monumental Complex of Saints Marcellino and Festo.
The rector Matteo Lorito will open the event together with the mayor of the City of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi. Introducing Antonio Pescapè, Delegate for the valorization of knowledge, and Piero Salatino, Delegate for orientation and relations with the school system.
«Federico II, cradle of scientific knowledge, technological development, and a new humanism» will be the narrative, presented in a popular science format to a non-expert audience, of some scientific research paths, technological development, and cultural elaboration, identified among the numerous leading sectors of the University of Naples Federico II. Professors Francesco Storti, Francesca Carlomagno, Giovanni Covone, Stefania De Pascale, Vincenzo Lippiello, and Francesco Timpone will bring their testimony.
The narration will alternate with musical interludes performed by the youth orchestra «Music frees everyone» of the Volunteer Association Animation Neighborhood Scampia (AQuaS-onlus).
Access is free to the meeting with the City, which is held at San Marcellino, and to all the initiatives planned for the National University Day.
Participation in the events is open to all those interested and is free of charge.
