The diplomat will meet the public of the historic film festival hosted in the hall of Via De Meis, in the eastern area of the Campanian capital, where the film "Till - The Courage of a Mother", a beautiful film by Chinonye Chukwu that tells the true story of Mamie Till-Mobley, an educator who, after the atrocious murder of her son Emmett, becomes an activist for the rights of African Americans. The brutal murder of the teenager from Chicago, accused of behaving inappropriately towards a white woman, led his mother, after a hasty trial, to publicly denounce the injustice received and the racism suffered by the fourteen-year-old.
Emmett is just one of the thousands of victims of violence and hatred driven by racism in the overseas country where, however, a united front has been created for the rights of African Americans. This is evidenced by the numerous initiatives that, every year, remember the sacrifice of the disappeared and the commitment of activists: from Martin Luther King Day, celebrated on January 15, to Rosa Parks Day which falls on February 4 until March 21, World Day Against Racism. It is in this vein that the evening curated by arci movie together with the us consulate general in Naples, present in the city since 1796, one of the oldest American diplomatic offices, is inserted.
