Two Giant Slalom races were held at Roccaraso over the weekend to award trophies organized by the 0.40 ski club. The races were also valid as regional selection for the qualifications to the 42nd national final of Pinocchio on skis and to acquire scores to enter the contingent of the Italian Championships.
On Saturday, Leonardo Iarussi, from the Aremogna ski club, was the first among all competitors in the Pupils, Juniors, and Seniors categories to win the trophy named after Emilio Buccafusca, a doctor and writer, father of Stefano, president of the 0.40 ski club.
Another trophy, in memory of one of the pioneers of Neapolitan skiing, Pino Perrone Capano, was won by Matteo Bevilacqua from Sai, the best athlete in the boys category. The cup named after Marcella Cacace, the historic secretary of the Napoli ski club, present at all the finishes of the races in which the young Neapolitan athletes of the past participated, went to Giada D’Antonio (sc Vesuvio), best time in the girls and overall female category.
On Sunday, however, the 0.40 ski club organized the race for the Baby and Puppies categories, which awarded the Egidio and Franca Amato trophy, great sports directors in the history of Neapolitan skiing. The perpetual challenge went to the fastest skier among the 216 in the race, Pasquale Greco from the Napoli ski club, who recorded the best overall time.
