Green Spaces in Italian Cities: A 2021 Report by Legambiente

According to the latest Istat data for 2021 on greenery, processed by Legambiente, Benevento has 12 square meters of green space per inhabitant, in line with the national average, but lower than cities like Caserta. A negative figure is the percentage of school gardens (2.5%) which is lower than both the regional and national averages. However, the capital of the Sannio region stands out for having the highest extension of equipped green areas. In terms of their absolute size, in Campania, Benevento and Salerno are the cities with the highest extension of equipped green areas, with 54 hectares and 26 hectares respectively.
