Guided Tours at Castel Capuano Resume: A Collaboration Between the Italian Touring Club and Fondazione Castel Capuano

The Italian Touring Club, in collaboration with the Fondazione Castel Capuano, resumes from Saturday, March 16, the guided tours to the historic Castle, interrupted due to the pandemic. The renewed collaboration was signed by Dr. Aldo De Chiara, president of the Fondazione Castel Capuano, and by the consuls Antonio Buonajuto and Giulio Colella as well as by the regional councilor and consul Giovanni Pandolfo. The guided tours, organized by the Club di Territorio di Napoli, start on Saturday, March 16 at 10 am and are divided into several shifts, by reservation only. The active member Lella Di Lucca is in charge of the operational management for the agreed dates: Saturday, March 16, Saturday, April 6, Saturday, May 18, Saturday, June 22, and Saturday, July 13. Visitors will be welcomed by expert guides and accompanied by volunteer members of "Aperti per Voi", an organization that facilitates access to cultural sites throughout Italy otherwise closed to the public. Castel Capuano, after Castel dell’Ovo, is the oldest castle in the city. Of Norman origin, it has been the seat of the Naples Tribunal for over five hundred years. Located at the end of via dei Tribunali, it owes its name to Porta Capuana, located nearby, which opens onto the road leading to ancient Capua. Initially a fortress, it became a royal residence and also a site of conspiracies and crimes. In 1540, it became the seat of all the Tribunals and then, the Palace of Justice. Today, after a recent restoration, it reopens its doors to the citizens who can once again admire its splendid halls and valuable works of art, tangible testimonies of the millennial history of Naples. From next autumn, the Italian Touring Club, in collaboration with the Fondazione Castel Capuano, plans to also conduct special tours aimed at secondary school students, to celebrate the 130 years of the Italian Touring Club.
