Harsh condemnation by the Court of Nola, in the province of Naples, against a 40-year-old accused of being responsible for a fatal road accident that occurred in Acerra on October 1, 2023.
Judge Raffaele Muzzica has sentenced the motorist to 12 years and 8 months in prison. The driver, under the influence of cocaine and without a license, took the wheel of his car, which was also uninsured.
Before the head-on collision, which occurred at one in the morning, the 40-year-old's vehicle invaded the opposite lane, colliding head-on with a small car, in which a couple with two young children were traveling. The driver, Pellegrino Losco, 65 years old, died instantly. His partner, Rachele Iannone, 45 years old, was seriously injured and died in the Villa dei Fiori clinic shortly after her arrival. The couple's two small children, a girl and a boy, aged nine and three, were also seriously injured.
The trial, which concluded yesterday, was held with an abbreviated procedure. The deputy prosecutor of Nola, Aurelia Caporale, had asked the judge for nine years in prison for the motorist.
