Heightened Security Measures in Naples Following Moscow Attack

After the attack in Moscow, the level of attention at risk sites has been raised in Naples as in other cities, also in view of the celebrations for Holy Week and the upcoming Jewish holidays: this was announced by the Prefecture of Naples the day after the meeting of the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety chaired by Prefect Michele di Bari. The decision was taken, it is explained, "on the basis of the directives received from the Ministry of the Interior and the indications of the National Committee for Public Order and Safety". Particular attention has been paid, reads a note issued by the Government Palace, "to the sensitive targets of the metropolitan area, in order to intensify the protection of public order and safety, also through verification and inspection activities at places and 'at-risk' sites, as well as in relation to the rites and celebrations of Holy Week, in addition to the events of other religious denominations, also in view of the upcoming Jewish holidays". "Particular attention - it is emphasized - will be dedicated to places where the greatest concentrations of people are recorded" and "in the coming days, a further update meeting of the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety will take place". At yesterday's meeting chaired by the Prefect of Naples, the Councillor for Legality and Local Police, De Iesu, the city's Police Chief, Maurizio Agricola, the Provincial Commander of the Carabinieri, General Enrico Scandone, for the Provincial Commander of the Guardia di Finanza, Colonel Paolo Consiglio and, for the Command of Operational Forces South of Naples, the commander of the Campania Grouping of the "Safe Streets" operation, Colonel Salvatore Abbate, also took part. The meeting last night follows the coordination meeting of the Police Forces of March 23 on the elevation of the security level, as a result of the attack that occurred in Moscow on the evening of March 22, with specific reference to careful planning of targeted and strengthened services with the participation of all the law enforcement agencies and the contribution of the military of the "Safe Streets" operation.
