High-Speed Chase and Arrest in Acerra Following an Attempted Scam

Last Monday, personnel from the Nola Highway Police Detachment, during a territorial control operation on the state highway 162 directional, in the Municipality of Acerra, noticed two cars parked in a rest area, with their respective drivers, a man and a woman, conversing animatedly. The officers, suspecting that it might be an attempt at a scam known as the “mirror scam”, approached the two; however, upon seeing the officers, the man quickly got back into his car and, with a dangerous reverse maneuver on the emergency lane, fled. The police chased him through the city streets of Acerra, where he repeatedly rammed the service vehicle, making sudden and dangerous maneuvers at high speed, regardless of the presence of numerous pedestrians, until he, after abandoning the vehicle at an intersection, leaving his pregnant wife and their four minor children inside, attempted to flee on foot but was caught and, not without difficulty, restrained. Subsequently, the officers tracked down the other driver, who reported hearing a noise to the vehicle and, after being chased and forced to stop by the man, received from him requests for money for hypothetical damages to the vehicle. Therefore, a 31-year-old Romanian man, was arrested for injuries, resistance to a Public Official and aggravated damage, and also reported for attempted fraud.
