The entire country is celebrating the historic and long-awaited event of the 'Palomonte carnival' which will take place on the 11th, 13th and 17th of February 2024. Along the streets and squares of the city center of Palomonte, there will be parades of allegorical floats with performances by hundreds of masked and costumed characters performing in a flash mob, accompanied by the notes of disco music played by local young DJs and a food area with traditional specialties.
The event, organized by the pro loco of Palomonte, in collaboration with the municipality of Palomonte, will begin with the parades on Sunday, February 11th, starting from 11 am until 11.59 pm in the area of Palomonte perrazze with a stop in San Nicola avenue, then continuing on Tuesday, February 13th, starting from 1 pm until 11.59 pm with the parade of allegorical floats through the streets of the village and making a stop in the Palomonte valley, and the final closing event of the parade which will take place from 2 pm until 11.59 pm in the Palomonte junction with a stop and awarding of the floats in Monsignor Palatucci square.
A significant event, the Palomonte carnival, which for about 40 years has brought together tourists, visitors and families from all over the Salerno area and sees all the families and young people of Palomonte who live in various districts and localities, together with local workers, working for months to create at their own expense, allegorical floats with breathtaking scenery, shows, tailor-made clothes, masks, makeup and hairstyles for hundreds of locals who transform into characters during the carnival days.
About a year of work for the creation of the allegorical floats and dancing shows that will act as an attractor and entertainment for adults and children and that this year, will see the pro loco Palomonte, award the allegorical floats for various categories, including design, mechanization and beauty. There will also be two special prizes, which the pro loco has wanted to dedicate to the memory of two young people from Palomonte who died prematurely, Giada D'Elia, the 21-year-old who died following a fatal road accident that occurred in March of last year, and Adriano Chiola, the 24-year-old who died in September two years ago from a tumor while fighting the disease by undergoing experimental treatment. The event will then conclude with the drawing of the lottery prizes promoted by the pro loco that has put up for grabs a Playstation 5, a 43'' LG TV, a hedge trimmer, an air fryer and a basket of typical local products from Palomonte.
'The Palomonte carnival is one of the ancient traditional events that the inhabitants of our country have carried forward since the post-earthquake of 1980 - explains the president of the pro loco Palomonte, Gerarda Mastrolia. - It is an event that every year sees our country grow and experience the preparation of the event with joy, because it translates into socialization, friendship, family, union, but also in the enhancement of Palomonte and the Sele valley area that coming together, expresses all its great potential, without forgetting its history and preserving its traditions thanks to the union of an entire country that brings together all its best workers, with students, artisans and professionals, who create and tell beauty and great values'.
