Historic Recognition for Gay-Odin Chocolate Factory and 'al 53' Restaurant in Naples

The Gay-Odin chocolate factory on via Vetriera and the restaurant 'al 53' in piazza Dante have been entered into the register of 'historic shops and businesses' of Naples. With two managerial provisions, dated March 13 and March 15, 2024, respectively, the Gay-Odin factory has been recognized as a 'business of significant historical, artistic, and typological value' and the restaurant 'al 53' as a 'business of significant historical and typological interest'. This recognition of a historic shop is aimed at protecting, promoting, and enhancing the artisanal, commercial, and hospitality activities present in the municipal territory characterized by significant temporal continuity, which represent foundational elements of the city's identity and cultural heritage of Naples and that enhance, with their continuity over time, the work and entrepreneurial intelligence. 'Gay-Odin and 'al 53' represent two historic activities of Naples and its intangible cultural heritage as well as a very important function of attracting tourist flows. A long family tradition accompanies the history of these two shops which, over the years, have managed to maintain their original characteristics and to keep the quality of their exquisite products and their offer high,' says the councilor for tourism and productive activities Teresa Armato who met with the owners Marisa del Vecchio (Gay-Odin) and Angelo Martino (al 53).
