The Carabinieri of the Environmental Protection Group Command of Naples, in execution of preventive seizure decrees issued by the Gip Office of the Torre Annunziata Court, at the request of the Oplontina prosecutor's office, have proceeded to seize two companies in Sant'Antonio Abate and Striano, whose legal representatives are believed to be responsible for the crimes of illegal discharge of industrial waste, violation of the prescriptions of the integrated environmental authorization and unauthorized waste management, of the Single Environmental Text, of obstruction of control as well as the crime of illegal building. In particular, the investigations, carried out by the Noe Carabinieri of Naples, who made use of the technical collaboration of Arpac, and coordinated by the Prosecutor's Office of Torre Annunziata, have ascertained that the activities of the preserving companies would have taken place in violation of the environmental regulations on the discharge of waste water into watercourses and waste management.
Specifically - reads a note signed by the prosecutor Nunzio Fragliasso - the Noe military of Naples, during repeated checks, have ascertained the uncontrolled deposit and abandonment of special waste, even dangerous on unpaved areas, whose runoff water was directly discharged into a reclamation channel tributary of the Sarno river, without any prior purification process. And again, the existence of substantial modifications and the creation of bypasses to avoid expensive purification processes, aimed at obstructing checks on the industrial waste produced and the actual methods of disposal of the same. Also found was the exceeding of the limit parameters provided for by the regulations for discharges into watercourses, with particular reference to the Cod (request for oxygen necessary to biodegrade polluting agents), to suspended solid residues and to Escherichia coli (fecal residues), aluminum and iron, clear signs of an inadequate or absent purification process.
The investigations also made it possible to ascertain, with reference to the Striano company, already subject to preventive seizure for completely similar facts not even a year ago, the construction of an industrial shed for the storage of raw materials in the absence of the required building permits. The precautionary measures, necessary in order to avoid further compromising the surrounding environment and the Sarno river, are part of a broader and more articulated investigative activity conducted in a widespread manner by the Carabinieri of the Naples group of the Environmental Protection and Energy Safety Command, making use of the technical collaboration of Arpac, and still ongoing, under the coordination of the Torre Annunziata prosecutor's office, aimed at ascertaining and removing the causes of pollution of the Sarno river and its tributaries.
