Illegal Waste Management and Pollution in Italian Buffalo Farm

The military belonging to the Castel Volturno Forestry Carabinieri Unit, as part of the inter-force control 'Action Day' ordered by the Caserta Police Headquarters, aimed at preventing and combating waste fires and related illegal activities, together with the Villa Literno Municipal Police and the Caserta Asl Veterinary Service, inspected a buffalo company in San Sossio in Villa Literno, in the protected area 'Oasi Soglitelle'. The inspection revealed illegalities in the illicit management of zootechnical effluents disposed on bare soil and in the perimeter channels and uncontrolled deposit of hazardous and non-hazardous special waste found abandoned within the company's premises. The farmer was also without the mandatory documentation relating to the correct management of slurry, as well as the documentation proving the correct disposal of the special waste produced. The area is subject to landscape-environmental constraints and protected area constraints as it falls within the perimeter of the nature reserve. The military proceeded to the judicial seizure of the entire company complex and its appurtenances, with the right of use only and exclusively for the management of the animals. The owner of the farm was reported for environmental pollution.
