Impersonator Caught Cutting Cables for Copper Theft

Yesterday morning, officers from the General Prevention and Public Rescue Office, during their patrol duties, following a note received at the local Operations Room, intervened in the Quattro Giornate gallery, due to the report of an improvised construction site with road signs, placed near a manhole, which could have created danger to road traffic. The officers, promptly arriving on the scene, caught a man disguised as a sector operator, coming out of the manhole and who, upon specific request of the police, could not justify his presence in that place. The officers, with the help of Enel personnel who arrived shortly after, ascertained that the suspect, an employee of a company specializing in the construction and maintenance of telecommunications networks, which was unaware of the facts, was intent on cutting several electrical cables present underground in order to remove the copper to then resell it; in particular, the electrical material recovered by the operators, consisting of copper, aluminum, and iron, was quantified at about 100 kg. For this reason, the suspect, identified as a 56-year-old from Scafati with a criminal record, was arrested for attempted aggravated theft and damage.
