Inauguration of the First Nature Classroom in Caserta at the Comprehensive Institute 'De Filippo'

On the first day of spring, a Nature classroom was inaugurated at the 'De Filippo' comprehensive institute in San Nicola la Strada, the first to be created in the Caserta area. The Nature classroom is born from the desire of Wwf Italy to give Italian schools outdoor classrooms where girls and boys can play, learn, relate with peers, and reconnect with nature. The proposal of the 'De Filippo' Institute was financed and enhanced by Wwf and P&G because its realization took place in an area - the so-called Saint Gobain zone - which in past decades has seen a vast industrial settlement with a significant environmental impact and a high incidence of diseases related precisely to environmental pollution. 'The De Filippo complex, which includes the Nature classroom - explains the school principal Giovanni Spalice - is characterized by the presence of very large green spaces that have allowed the realization of the classroom and that need to be further equipped and enhanced so that the stigma of contaminated area can be overcome.' The goal is to contribute to the growth of an ecological consciousness and to respond to the proposal of recommendation of the European Council relating to learning for environmental sustainability of January 14, 2022, summarized in the GreenComp study that defines the European framework of competences for sustainability. In this way, it is proposed to promote in the school institute activities, methodologies, and contents aimed at developing competences on applied sciences which, in addition to providing job opportunities for students, are the engine for a concrete ecological transition.
