Italian Man Arrested for Defrauding Elderly Woman

The Carabinieri of the operational section of the company of Trento, assisted by colleagues from the operational and mobile radio unit of Verona, have arrested an Italian man in his forties, originally from the Province of Naples, as he was identified as responsible for a scam against an elderly lady. The Carabinieri of Trento had already organized a series of specific undercover services during the time slots considered most sensitive (mainly late morning and early afternoon) following a resurgence of the phenomenon of scams against the elderly, recorded precisely in the last few weeks in the provincial territory. And it was precisely in the late morning of Friday, a patrol of the operational section intercepted one of the monitored subjects, who with a suspicious demeanor was wandering around Vittorio Veneto street about to get into a taxi. The military thus decided to follow the vehicle, in order to understand where it was headed, while simultaneously gathering various information from colleagues at the stations about the very latest scams perpetrated in the area, and thus strengthening the suspicions about the taxi passenger who had already taken the highway in the direction of Verona, an unusual destination for a trip by taxi. With the support of colleagues from the operational and mobile radio unit of Verona, the taxi was stopped in the Verona area and the man immediately searched, and then found in possession of a large amount of cash (almost 40,000 euros) and valuable jewelry. It was simultaneously verified that his latest victim was that same morning an elderly woman from Trento, to whom the offender claimed to be a "Marshal of the Carabinieri" and that her granddaughter had had a road accident and that to be released she had to pay a sort of cash bail. The lady therefore handed over the amount of over 30,000 euros in cash as well as the gold jewelry she was wearing, also at the request of the criminal. What was stolen from the elderly woman was entirely returned to her.
