Jewelry Heist in Caserta: A Cunning Distraction Scheme

In September 2023, two individuals entered a renowned jewelry store in the center of Caserta, using a common technique of distraction and deception of the victim, stole gold jewelry worth about 10,000 euros. Specifically, while the woman kept asking the shopkeeper about possible jewelry purchases, thus diverting the victim's attention, the man managed to take possession of numerous pieces of jewelry. The investigations, directed by the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Santa Maria Capua Vetere and conducted by the Mobile Squad of the police department, allowed the identification of the two suspects in a short time, thanks to the cross-examination of witness statements, surveillance video images, and telephone and electronic data. In light of the evidence acquired, upon request of the local Prosecutor's Office of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, a precautionary measure of house arrest and mandatory residence was issued against the suspects, executed by the Mobile Squad of Caserta. It is specified in a note that the proceeding is in the preliminary investigation phase, that the current suspects are to be considered innocent until a final judgment, and that the precautionary measure was adopted without the contradiction that will occur before the judge, who may also evaluate the absence of any form of responsibility on the part of the suspects.
