Joint Military and Environmental Operations Lead to Seizures in Benevento

In the context of joint services of the territorial military forces and the special Forestry and Labor Protection units of Benevento, following a territorial control aimed at verifying potential compromises and deterioration of environmental matrices, a preventive seizure was carried out, later validated by the Benevento Court, of a factory of about 500 square meters and its machinery, located in the municipality of San Salvatore Telesino. The soldiers of the Forestry Carabinieri unit of Telese Terme intervened and verified that the owner of the factory was carrying out maintenance and repair activities of silos without authorization for emissions into the atmosphere, without documentation attesting the disposal of waste (including hazardous special waste) and the systems for capturing, conveying, and removing processing dust. These were the reasons for the complaint against the owner of the factory, which were supplemented by allegations of the presence of a worker without a regular residence permit and without the necessary training to ensure his own and others' safety in the role performed. For these conducts, the soldiers of the Labor Protection of Benevento and the unit of San Salvatore Telesino proceeded separately. In another operation, the same soldiers of the Forestry unit of Telese Terme seized, also validated by the Court of Benevento, a private area of about 500 square meters, in Melizzano, where there were piles of ferrous materials from the dismantling of electronic material from which noble recovery materials were obtained, as well as numerous pieces and mechanical parts of cars for engines and mechanical parts for recycling. In the surrounding area of the house, there were scattered drums of used oils, car carcasses, and a room equipped as a mechanical workshop without authorizations. The owner of the area was referred to the A.G. for the crime of illegal management of hazardous special waste.
