Lello Marangio: A Humorous Take on Disability and Literary Success

With his autobiographical book "Unleash Hell at My Signal" published by Homo Scrivens, Lello Marangio climbs the bestseller list in Italy. He indeed ranked 13th in the list of the 50 best-selling humorous books. Behind him are big names like Corrado Guzzanti, Sergio Staino, Jacopo Fo, and Enrico Brignano, a great satisfaction for the Neapolitan humorist. This book has been presented all over Italy and also in Zurich at a meeting organized by the Italian Institute for Cultural Exchanges Italy-Switzerland and has been adopted, along with other books by Marangio, in all the schools of Ripatransone, a town in the Province of Ascoli Piceno, on the initiative of the Mayor Alessandro Lucciarini and the entire City Council. In his books, Marangio, a humorist and author of many significant comedians, also disabled with a history as a Paralympic athlete (he swam across the Strait of Messina twice), talks about disability in an ironic way, making us laugh but at the same time highlighting the many problems that plague the disabled. A completely different perspective that avoids unnecessary pity but instead charges up to seriously address the discomforts of the disabled, an ironic but substantial literary mix that is having enormous success, in fact, his books are selling out everywhere, and he receives awards all over Italy. With five books to his credit, volumes that can be found in all bookstores, Marangio has received six awards for Best Humorous Literature: The Samadi Cultural Award (Brindisi), the Lucio Rufolo Award (Naples), the Charlot Award (Salerno), the Massimo Troisi Award (San Giorgio a Cremano), the Il Giullare Award inspired by Dario Fo (Trani), and the latest on March 15 at the Yachting Club of Salerno, the International Award to the Word. His new book "Please Do Not Touch the Disabled" is requested and presented everywhere in Italy. Last February 6, it was presented in the Senate, in the Sala Caduti di Nassirya with an initiative by Senator Francesco Silvestro, always attentive to the problems of the disabled, on April 6 it will be presented in Alba in the province of Cuneo in an event wanted by the Disability Guarantor of the Municipality Dr. Orsola Bonino. In May, Marangio will present this book at the Book Fair. In short, a literary affirmation of Marangio and his publisher Aldo Putignano who has always believed in him, a success that starts from Naples and radiates throughout Italy.
